ProxiDiscs – Proximal Separator Discs

ProxiDiscs are stainless-steel proximal separator discs that help create space by breaking through tight contacts, allowing teeth to "settle", or by removing excess materials from inter proximal surfaces. Our new diamond-coated ProxiDisc has a fine diamond-coating on one side to gently remove excess cement (or other materials) from one tooth only, or even to allow easier placement of a matrix band or wedge, while the smooth surface on the opposite side protects the adjacent tooth. The curved design allows the ProxiDisc to be gently rocked through the contact. protecting enamel and tooth surfaces from damage. There are no serrated edges ("saw blades"), meaning no damage to enamel and tooth surfaces. Thin stainless steel easily slides through contacts. Convenient hole-in-handle allows you to tie on a safety loop of dental floss. Autoclavable and reusable.

  • Diamond 1-sided, 4 pk (Ref# 390010) $79.95
  • Smooth, 2-sided, 8 pk (Ref# 390011) $54.95
  • Indications for Use:
  • Create space in tight contact interproximal areas
  • Adjust, break or smooth contacts
  • Remove excess bonding agents, resins, or cements from interproximal areas.

Using a firm rocking motion, roll the ProxiDisc through the contact area with pressure to remove excess material trapped in tight interproximal areas. Sterilization must be performed with validated procedures. Rinse thoroughly with water after immersion into cleaning/disinfecting solution, otherwise discoloration or staining may occur.

Clinical Use

FAQs

What are the primary indications of use for ProxiDiscs?

To create space in crowded dentition, to break or adjust contacts, or to gently remove excess materials from interproximal areas.

Why is there a hole in the ProxiDisc handle?

It is used to loop dental floss through it for the added safety of your patient.

Why do ProxiDiscs have a curved, rounded design?

ProxiDiscs do not have sharp edges, so safe to use. The curved design protects enamel and tooth surfaces from damage.

When would you use diamond-coated ProxiDiscs vs. smooth (uncoated) ProxiDiscs?

Diamond-coated ProxiDiscs have a fine diamond-coating on one side to create space in crowded dentition and to gently remove excess materials from one tooth only or even to allow easier placement of a matrix band or wedge; the smooth surface on the opposite side protects the adjacent tooth. The uncoated or smooth ProxiDisc is ideal to remove excess cement or other materials without removing enamel from either tooth.

How do ProxiDiscs compare to serrated saw blade instruments?

Diamond-coated ProxiDiscs have a fine diamond-coating on one side to create space in crowded dentition and to gently remove excess materials from one tooth only while the smooth surface on the opposite side protects the adjacent tooth. Serrated saw blades roughen enamel when sawing through contacts.

Are ProxiDiscs autoclavable and reusable?

Yes.

How-To's

1Choose the preferred disc, (smooth sides, or diamond coated where an abrasive effect is preferred).

2Tie a safety loop of dental floss through the hole in the handle.

3Using a firm rocking motion, roll the ProxiDisc through the contact area with pressure to remove excess material trapped in tight interproximal area.

4If additional reduction is required, move the ProxiDisc buccolingually until you feel the restoration settling onto the adjacent tooth as the abrasive diamond coating relieves the pressure.

5 Clean and sterilize after each use.
